SGHO News    Optometry Unit Gain Topography Facility

May 2008: The Optometry Unit at Sangre Hospital has taken delivery of a state of the art topography  machine. The machine can scan the entire front segment of the eye which can be used for diagnosis and management of many conditions.

Of great interest to keratoconics is its ability to detect early stages of keratoconus using topography which maps out the contours of the eye. With this machine it is possible to detect even very early keratoconus.

Ms Petra Bridgemohan, Prinicpal optometrist at SGHO, says: Optometrists and physicians in the community who suspect patients may have this condition can refer them into the SGHO Optometry Unit for topography. This will not only help the patients through earlier diagnosis but will also aid us in monitoring the number of people with the condition in TnT.
